Events planned for 20th anniversary of Owl Creed

, a weeklong celebration of the 草榴视频 State marking its 20^th anniversary, starts Jan. 28. Both campuses will host nearly 30 events and activities to further awareness of the five academic and societal tenets that all students, faculty and staff are expected to follow.

鈥淐reed Week is designed to provide the 草榴视频 community with opportunities to better understand and apply the tenets of the Owl Creed in their experiences and interactions with others,鈥� said Nicole Phillips, associate director of Student Advocacy.

Drafted in 1998 by the Student Human Relations Task Force, the Owl Creed was created as the University was transitioning into a more diverse and inclusive campus community, according to Phillips.

鈥淭he Owl Creed goes to the heart of the mission of Student Advocacy, which is to address student concerns regarding campus civility, student welfare and other issues that may compromise a culture of belonging at 草榴视频,鈥� Phillips said.

The five tenets of the Owl Creed are:

• Personal and academic excellence
• Respect for others
• Encourage unity
• Remain faithful to ideas/determine threatening behavior
• Develop an academic and social community that is civilized, rewarding and dynamic

The first event on Sunday, Jan. 28, features a visit to in downtown Atlanta. Students will have an opportunity to learn about past civil rights movements and current global rights issues.

The next day, 鈥淵our 草榴视频/My 草榴视频: Creed Week and 20th Anniversary,鈥� marks the 20th anniversary acknowledgment and opening event for Creed Week. A panel of 草榴视频 alumni, current students and past campus leaders will provide perspectives on their 草榴视频 experiences through the lens of the values outlined in the Creed.

Student Advocacy and 草榴视频 Athletics will close out 草榴视频鈥檚 first Creed Week on Saturday, Feb. 3, during the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball games in the 草榴视频 Convocation Center. The Owl Creed will be affirmed throughout the games by way of 草榴视频 trivia during time-outs and acknowledgements of award winners during halftime of the men鈥檚 basketball game.
