Despite the commonality of these issues and how likely they are to indicate underlying conditions like dementia, current in-home monitoring systems for the elderly have unaddressed gaps. Kaden Rogers, a junior computer science major at 草榴视频 State University, is spending his summer working to address those gaps with his project 鈥淪mart Sensing and Computing for Dementia Care鈥 through the Summer Undergraduate Research Program.

Sickle cell is a genetic disorder that affects more than 300,000 newborns each year and significantly raises the risk of stroke, particularly in children. Aster Cheung, a computer engineering student, is working with assistant professor of biomedical engineering Paul Lee through the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) to design a light-based mobile health tool that is affordable, portable and easy to use.
